Odisha Cabinet Approves Deep Sea Fishing Mission on 1 July 2026

¨     Odisha Cabinet approved the Deep Sea Fishing Mission on July 1, 2026.

¨  This mission is a flagship initiative of the Odisha Government's Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department.

¨     The mission has been planned for a duration of 10 years (2026–2036).

¨     Its estimated cost exceeds ₹2,295 crore, and it will be implemented in phases.

¨ The mission will be funded through contributions from the Central and State governments, beneficiary participation, institutional finance, and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).

¨     Its objective is to promote sustainable deep-sea fishing, marine fisheries infrastructure, and seafood exports.

¨     The mission also focuses on improving livelihoods and creating employment in coastal areas.

¨ A target has been set to achieve an additional marine fish production of approximately 2 lakh metric tonnes by 2036.

¨     It is estimated that this initiative will generate over 50,000 jobs.

¨     Additionally, a target of ₹5,000 crore in annual marine exports has been set.

¨     A dedicated Blue Economy Hub (B-Hub) will be established under this mission.

¨  This hub will serve as a center for knowledge, innovation, and coordination, while promoting the sustainable use of marine resources.
