Professor Karthikeyan
Lanka of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has been
selected for the NASI Young Scientist Award 2026.
¨
He is an Associate
Professor at the Centre of Studies in Resources Engineering at IIT Bombay.
¨
He is also an Associate
Faculty Member in the Interdisciplinary Programme in Climate Studies at IIT
Bombay.
¨
The award will be
presented during the 96th Annual Session and Symposium of the National Academy
of Sciences, India.
¨
The event is scheduled to
be held at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, on 4–5 December 2026.
¨
The National Academy of
Sciences, India (NASI) is one of the oldest science academies in India.
¨
NASI was established in
1930 and is headquartered in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
¨
The academy organises
annual sessions, scientific symposia and academic recognitions for scientists
in India.
¨
Professor Lanka’s
research areas include remote sensing of terrestrial processes, land-atmosphere
interactions and agricultural droughts.
¨
Remote sensing uses
satellite and airborne data to study and monitor the Earth’s surface and
environmental processes.
¨
Land-atmosphere
interaction is an important area of research in climate and environmental
studies.
¨
The NASI Young Scientist
Award is presented to early-career scientists for their contributions to
different fields of science.
¨
The 2026 awardees also
include scientists such as Professor Ankit Agarwal, Dr. Ashutosh K. Singh and
Dr. Akanksha Singh.
