Rajasthan's Tiger Population Rises to 149

¨     Rajasthan's tiger population reached 149 as of 28 July 2026, increasing from 135 in 2025.

¨     The total includes both adult tigers and cubs.

¨     The figures were released ahead of International Tiger Day, observed annually on 29 July.

Rajasthan has five Tiger Reserves

¨     Ranthambore Tiger Reserve

¨     Sariska Tiger Reserve

¨     Mukundara Hills Tiger Reserve

¨     Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve

¨     Dholpur-Karauli Tiger Reserve

Ranthambore Tiger Reserve remains the state's largest tiger habitat.Its tiger population increased from 66 in 2025 to 72 in 2026.Sariska Tiger Reserve recorded an increase from 50 to 56 tigers during the same period.According to Chief Wildlife Warden K.C. Arun Prasad, 54 tigresses gave birth to 53 cubs across the five tiger reserves.In 2025, 52 tigresses had given birth to 43 cubs.Of the 149 tigers, about 96 are adults, while the remaining are cubs.Ranthambore Tiger Reserve has an estimated carrying capacity of 40–50 tigers, but its current population stands at 72.Tiger carrying capacity refers to the maximum number of tigers that a habitat can support based on the availability of prey, water, and space.When the tiger population exceeds the habitat's carrying capacity, tigers may disperse into adjoining forest areas.
