¨     On 5 August 2026, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra announced that the repo rate would remain unchanged at 5.25%.

¨     This is the fourth consecutive MPC meeting in which the repo rate has been maintained at 5.25%.

¨     The decision reflects the RBI's focus on maintaining price stability while supporting economic growth.

¨     The repo rate is the interest rate at which the RBI lends short-term funds to commercial banks.

¨     Changes in the repo rate influence borrowing costs, lending rates, inflation, and overall economic activity.

¨     The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is responsible for determining India's policy interest rates to achieve the inflation target while supporting growth.
