¨     Saudi Arabia carried out airstrikes on Mukalla, a port city of Yemen.

¨     The attack took place in the early hours of 30 December 2025.

¨     The airstrikes were launched after ships arrived there from Fujairah, a port city on the UAE’s eastern coast.

¨     Saudi authorities claimed weapons were unloaded from the ships. The airstrikes were launched to destroy those weapons.

¨     The attack marks a new escalation in tensions involving Saudi Arabia and the Southern Transitional Council.

¨     After the strikes, Yemen’s anti-Houthi forces declared a state of emergency.

¨     In another development, protests erupted across Iran following a sharp fall in Iran’s currency.

¨     Iran’s currency, rial hit a record low against the US dollar.

¨     The head of Iran’s Central Bank resigned. As per Media reports, the protests are the largest in three years.
