Over 1.18 lakh birds have
been rescued across the state in the last ten years under Gujarat state's
Karuna Abhiyan.

These birds were
primarily injured during the kite-flying season of Uttarayan.
¨
The Karuna Abhiyan was
launched in 2017. Since its inception, more than 1.29 lakh injured birds have
received medical treatment.
¨
An overall recovery rate
of over 92 percent has been achieved.

Forest and Environment
Minister Arjun Modhwadia said that improved coordination has led to better
rescue operations.
¨
He also highlighted the
improved medical facilities for injured birds.
¨
This year's Karuna
Abhiyan ran from January 10th to January 20th.
¨
During this year's Karuna
Abhiyan, 16,380 birds injured by kite strings were treated. Of these, 14,690
birds survived.
¨
This resulted in a
recovery rate of approximately 90 percent.
¨
Rescue and treatment
operations were conducted in all 33 districts of Gujarat. Ahmedabad recorded
the highest number of cases.
¨
In Ahmedabad, a total of
7,040 birds were treated, and 6,532 of them were rescued.
¨
Ahmedabad was followed by
Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Gandhinagar.
¨
Pigeons accounted for the
highest number of injured birds. After pigeons, black kites, crows, falcons,
and other birds were affected.
¨
During the 2026 campaign,
birds from 41 different species were treated.
