¨     Bihar launched the Traffic Challan One-Time Settlement Scheme, 2026 through a gazette notification issued on 30 April 2026.

¨     The scheme provides up to 50 percent relief on pending traffic e-challans.

¨     It will remain operational during the financial year 2026-27.

¨     The scheme was approved by the Bihar Cabinet.

¨     It applies to e-challans pending for more than 90 days.

¨     Different official references mention the closing date as either 31 March 2025 or 31 March 2026.

¨     The scheme became effective on 9 May 2026, the day of the National Lok Adalat.

¨     Violations covered under the scheme include not wearing helmets, not using seat belts, and driving without insurance.

¨     Serious violations such as using mobile phones while driving and dangerous driving under Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 are excluded from the scheme.

¨     Full penalties will continue to apply for these serious offences.

¨     Patna High Court issued directions on 8 May 2026 for the National Lok Adalat scheduled on 9 May 2026.

¨  The directions included accessible settlement venues, online payment facilities, and adequate security arrangements

¨     Registered vehicle owners were also instructed to be informed through mobile numbers within two days.
