Defence Research and Development Organisation conducted three consecutive missile flight tests

¨Defence Research and Development Organisation conducted three consecutive missile flight tests .

¨  The trials included interceptor missiles for the Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system and the maiden flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile–Medium Range (NASM-MR).

¨ Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) is a system designed to detect, track, intercept, and destroy ballistic missiles before they reach their targets.

¨     The DRDO tests involved interceptor missiles developed to neutralize Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missiles (IRBMs).

¨     These interceptor missiles are capable of operating in both exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception modes.

¨     Exo-atmospheric interception takes place outside the Earth's atmosphere.

¨     Endo-atmospheric interception takes place within the Earth's atmosphere.

¨     Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missiles (IRBMs) are ballistic missiles with ranges between 2,000 km and 5,000 km.

¨ Ballistic missiles are generally classified by range into short-range, medium-range, intermediate-range, and intercontinental categories.

¨     Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) have ranges exceeding 5,500 km.

¨     ICBMs represent the longest-range category of ballistic missiles.

¨  The successful tests demonstrated India’s growing capabilities in multi-layered missile defence and advanced naval strike systems.

¨     The trials are an important step toward strengthening the country's strategic and defence preparedness.
