¨     Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying organised a national conference in New Delhi on 11 May 2026.

¨ The theme of the conference was “Laboratory Animal Welfare: Policies and Best Practices.”

¨   The event was organised by the Committee for the Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals.

¨     The committee functions under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

¨     The Committee for the Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals is the statutory body regulating animal experimentation in India.

¨     It is commonly known as CPCSEA.

¨     It functions under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying of the Government of India.

¨     Laboratory animal welfare includes the care of animals used in scientific research.

¨     It covers standards related to housing, maintenance and use of laboratory animals.

¨     Its objective is to reduce pain, distress and suffering during experiments and related procedures.

¨     The conference discussed humane and ethical practices in the care of laboratory animals.

¨     It focused on the implementation of regulatory frameworks.

¨     Emphasis was placed on adopting national and international best practices.

¨ Discussions were also held on responsible research practices involving animals for scientific purposes.
