During the high-level
talks held in Jakarta, India and Indonesia signed around a dozen key agreements
to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
¨
The meeting was held
between Narendra Modi and Prabowo Subianto.
¨
The agreements cover
defence, maritime infrastructure, critical minerals, digital payments, space
cooperation, education, and cultural heritage.
¨
These agreements further
strengthen the India–Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established
in 2018.
¨
Indonesia signed a
commercial contract with BrahMos Aerospace, the India–Russia joint venture, to
procure the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system.
¨
India will supply two
BrahMos missile batteries, mobile launchers, radar systems, and guidance
systems to Indonesia.
¨
The deal marks a major
boost to India’s defence exports in Southeast Asia.
¨
Bharat Dynamics Limited
(BDL) and Indonesia’s Republicorp also signed an agreement for the export of
the indigenous Astra Beyond Visual Range (BVR) Air-to-Air Missile.
¨
This is the first formal
export order for the Astra missile.
¨
Developed by DRDO, the
Astra missile can engage enemy aircraft at a range of over 100 km using active
radar homing technology.
¨
Both countries agreed to
jointly develop the Sabang Deep-Sea Port to enhance maritime security in the
Indo-Pacific region.
¨
The Sabang Port is
strategically located at the entrance to the Strait of Malacca, one of the
world's busiest maritime trade routes.
¨
The port is located about
100 nautical miles from India’s Great Nicobar Project, enhancing maritime
connectivity and surveillance.
¨ The Indian and Indonesian Coast Guards will conduct joint patrols.
¨ An Indonesian military liaison officer will be permanently stationed at the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) in Gurugram.
