IAS officer NSK Umesh has been appointed as Additional Secretary and Special Executive to the Chief Minister of Kerala

¨     NSK Umesh, a 2015-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Kerala cadre, was appointed as Additional Secretary and Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Minister of Kerala on 20 May 2026.

¨     The order was issued by the General Administration Department of Kerala under the directions of the Governor.

¨     The appointment order was signed by Additional Secretary Rajesh GR.

¨     In India, an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) is an administrative position in government departments and ministerial offices.

¨     The role is usually linked to a senior office or a specific administrative assignment.

¨     In many cases, the position is held along with other administrative responsibilities.

¨     Under the Constitution of India, the Chief Minister of Kerala is the head of the state executive.

¨     The General Administration Department issues orders related to appointments, transfers and service matters of officials in the Kerala government.

¨     At the time of his appointment, NSK Umesh was serving as the Director of General Education.

¨  He was also holding additional charge as Managing Director of Kerala Financial Corporation.

¨     Earlier, he had served as the District Collector of Ernakulam.
