ICAR–Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) launched the DeepDATA mobile application

¨     ICAR–Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) launched the DeepDATA mobile application on 23 July 2026.

¨     DeepDATA is designed for the documentation of deep-sea fish species.

¨     The app provides scientifically verified information on deep-sea fish.

¨     Users can upload field observations to contribute to a National Digital Repository.

¨     DeepDATA is available on the Google Play Store.

¨     It serves as both a learning platform and a documentation tool for students, researchers, fishermen, and marine enthusiasts.

¨     The app contains species-level information on taxonomy, identification features, distribution, and conservation status.

¨     It also enables users to upload photographs and observations collected during fishing operations, research cruises, and coastal visits.

¨     DeepDATA was developed under the Deep Ocean Mission.

¨     The project is funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India.

¨     The Deep Ocean Mission is a national initiative focused on ocean exploration, marine resource assessment, and deep-sea research.

¨     CMFRI functions under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

¨     The institute conducts research on marine fisheries, fishery resource assessment, and marine biodiversity.

¨     CMFRI is headquartered in Kochi, Kerala.
