¨ India and Armenia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 17 August 2026 in Yerevan for cooperation in defence research, development, innovation and joint production.
¨ The agreement was signed during the two-day official visit of India’s Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, which began on 16 August 2026.
¨ The MoU aims to promote cooperation between the two countries in defence research, technology development, innovation and joint defence production.
¨ Rajesh Kumar Singh held discussions with Armenian Minister of High-Tech Industry Davit Tadevosyan on joint manufacturing and defence technology cooperation.
¨ He also met Armenian Defence Minister Suren Papikyan.
¨ He held discussions with Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Edvard Asryan.
¨ India’s Ambassador to Armenia, Nilakshi Saha Sinha, was also present during the meetings in Yerevan.
¨ The cumulative value of defence contracts signed between India and Armenia since 2020 reached nearly US$2 billion by 17 August 2026.
¨ Armenia has acquired or ordered several major Indian defence systems.
¨ These include the Akash air defence system.
¨ Armenia has also acquired the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher system.
¨ The Swathi radar system is another Indian defence system acquired by Armenia.
¨ Armenia has also ordered the ATAGS (Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System).
¨ Yerevan is the capital and largest city of Armenia.
¨ Akash is an Indian surface-to-air missile system designed for air defence.
¨ Pinaka is an Indian multi-barrel rocket launcher system developed for the Indian Army.
¨ ATAGS stands for Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System and is an Indian-developed artillery platform.
