The arrangement allows
Australia to export uranium to India for peaceful civilian nuclear energy
programmes.
¨ The 2015 Nuclear Cooperation Agreement provides the legal framework for uranium trade between the two countries.

India has set a target of
100 GW of nuclear power generation capacity by 2047.

Nuclear fuel is part of
India’s long-term clean energy strategy, alongside solar, wind, and other
low-carbon energy sources.
Defence and Security Cooperation

Prime Ministers Narendra
Modi and Anthony Albanese adopted the Joint Declaration on Defence and Security
Cooperation.

The declaration focuses
on military engagement, defence industrial collaboration, and maritime security
in the Indo-Pacific.
¨
Both countries agreed to
implement a Maritime Security Collaboration Roadmap.
¨
The roadmap includes
maritime domain awareness, information sharing, and operational coordination
across the Indian Ocean and the wider Indo-Pacific.
Critical Minerals and Defence Innovation
¨
India and Australia announced
the India–Australia Critical Minerals Corridor.
¨
Critical minerals are
essential for batteries, renewable energy systems, electronics, and defence
manufacturing.
¨
The two countries also
launched the India–Australia Defence Innovation Corridor.
¨
The corridor aims to
strengthen technology development, research, and defence industrial
partnerships.
Trade, Investment and Economic Cooperation
¨
AustralianSuper announced
an investment of AU$500 million.
¨
Discussions covered
critical minerals, green hydrogen, clean manufacturing, aviation, transport,
financial services, and food processing.
¨
Both countries reaffirmed
their commitment to conclude a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement
(CECA).
¨
The Economic Cooperation
and Trade Agreement (ECTA) has been in force since 2022.
¨ Bilateral trade in goods and services between India and Australia was valued at US$33.93 billion in 2025.
¨ India and Australia are key partners in the Indo-Pacific regional economic and security architecture.
