India
and the United Kingdom launched the Critical Minerals Global Supply Chain
Observatory New Delhi
¨
India and the United
Kingdom launched the Critical Minerals Global Supply Chain Observatory (GSCO)
on 5 June 2026 in New Delhi.
¨
The observatory is a
joint initiative of TEXMiN at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and University of Cambridge.
¨
Critical minerals are
minerals essential for economic activity and industrial production.
¨
They are widely used in
clean energy technologies, electric mobility, advanced manufacturing, and
emerging technologies.
¨
Critical mineral supply
chains include extraction, processing, refining, transportation, and end-use
manufacturing.
¨
GSCO is designed to
monitor and analyse global critical mineral supply chains.
¨
It helps identify supply
risks and disruptions across critical mineral markets.
¨
The observatory generates
market intelligence and supports evidence-based decision-making.
¨
It assists policymakers, industries,
and researchers in understanding supply-chain vulnerabilities.
¨
GSCO also promotes
resource security for sectors related to clean energy and advanced
manufacturing.
¨
The initiative was first
announced during the visit of Keir Starmer to India in October 2025.
¨ The June 2026 launch marks Phase II of the UK–India Critical Minerals Supply Chain Observatory.
¨ A Research Collaboration Agreement for the project was formally signed in March 2026.
