India hosted the 16th BRICS Health Ministers' Meeting in Chandigarh under its BRICS Chairship 2026

¨    India hosted the 16th BRICS Health Ministers' Meeting in Chandigarh from 22–24 July 2026 under its BRICS Chairship 2026.

¨    The meeting brought together Health Ministers, senior officials, and technical experts from the 11-member BRICS grouping.

¨     The BRICS members are Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia.

¨     BRICS is a grouping of major emerging economies that was originally formed as BRIC.

¨     The grouping became BRICS after South Africa joined in 2010.

¨     Following the 2024 and 2025 expansion, BRICS now has 11 member countries.

¨   BRICS promotes cooperation in health, trade, technology, investment, and sustainable development.

¨     Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda chaired the Health Ministers' Meeting on 23 July 2026.

¨ The member countries unanimously adopted the 16th BRICS Health Ministerial Declaration.

¨   The declaration emphasizes Universal Health Coverage (UHC), pandemic preparedness, digital health, and equitable access to medicines.

¨  The theme of the meeting was "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability."
