Indian Coast Guard inducted the
new-generation Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) ICGS Achal

On 9 May 2026, the Indian
Coast Guard inducted the new-generation Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV)
ICGS Achal.
¨
The formal commissioning
ceremony of ICGS Achal was held at Goa Shipyard Limited.
¨
The vessel is 51 metres
long.
¨
It has been built using
indigenous technology.
¨
More than 50 percent of
the equipment and systems used in the vessel are indigenous.
¨
Adamya-class vessels are
used by the Indian Coast Guard for coastal security and maritime law
enforcement.
¨
ICGS Achal has been
specially designed for patrol and maritime interception operations.
¨
The vessels of this class
are equipped with high speed and superior manoeuvrability.
¨
They are used for
maritime surveillance, anti-smuggling operations, and emergency assistance
missions.
¨
ICGS Achal is powered by
two advanced 3000-kilowatt diesel engines.
¨
The vessel can achieve a
maximum speed of 27 knots.
¨
It has an operational
range of 1500 nautical miles.
¨
The ship can accommodate
5 officers and 34 other personnel.
¨
It is equipped with
modern communication systems and maritime surveillance equipment.
¨
The vessel can operate
effectively even in challenging sea conditions.
¨
ICGS Achal will be
deployed at Vadinar in Gujarat.
¨
The vessel will function
under the administrative and operational control of Coast Guard Region (North
West).
¨
Its primary roles include
coastal and offshore surveillance, maritime interception, search and rescue
operations, anti-smuggling missions, and marine pollution control.
¨
The vessel is expected to
strengthen maritime security in the Arabian Sea region.
¨ The commissioning ceremony was conducted by A. Ambarasu, IAS, Additional Secretary and Director General (Acquisition), Ministry of Defence
¨ Commandant (Junior Grade) Naveen Kumar will serve as the commanding officer of the vessel.
