Ngulkham Jathom Gangte was appointed as India’s next Ambassador to Mexico

¨     Ngulkham Jathom Gangte was appointed as India’s next Ambassador to Mexico on 29 July 2026.

¨     He is a 1994-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer.

¨     Before this appointment, he was serving as Special Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

¨     An Ambassador is the head of a country's diplomatic mission in a foreign nation.

¨     Ambassadors represent their country in bilateral relations and promote diplomatic, political, and economic cooperation.

¨     India appoints ambassadors to countries with which it maintains full diplomatic relations.

¨     The Indian Foreign Service (IFS) is responsible for India’s foreign policy, diplomatic representation, consular services, and international relations.

¨     IFS officers are recruited through the Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

¨     Ngulkham Jathom Gangte served as India’s Ambassador to Tunisia from 2021 and also held concurrent accreditation to Libya.

¨     He was High Commissioner of India to Zambia from 2017 to 2021.

¨     He has also served in Indian diplomatic missions in Egypt, Morocco, Ireland, and Tanzania.
