Odisha announced a plan to provide free education—ranging from Kindergarten (KG) to the postgraduate (PG) level—in all government educational institutions across the state

¨     Odisha announced a plan to provide free education—ranging from Kindergarten (KG) to the postgraduate (PG) level—in all government educational institutions across the state.

¨     This arrangement will apply to government institutions falling under the School and Mass Education Department and the Higher Education Department.

¨     Currently, free education up to Class 10 is available in government institutions in Odisha.

¨     Under the new scheme, the scope of free education will be extended to the higher secondary, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels.

¨     According to the state government, this policy is expected to benefit over 10 lakh students.

¨     The state government will incur an additional annual expenditure of approximately ₹30 crore for this scheme related to higher education.

¨     The detailed modalities of the scheme are currently being prepared.

¨     It will be implemented following Cabinet approval and the issuance of an official notification.

¨     This policy will apply only to government educational institutions, not to private ones.

¨     Mohan Charan Majhi announced this scheme during a press conference held to mark the completion of two years of the BJP government in the state.

¨     This initiative is part of the state's broader administrative and educational reform agenda.

¨     The scheme aims to enhance equitable access to education and encourage enrollment in higher education.
