¨     Prime Minister Narendra Modi held separate meetings on 26 May 2026 in New Delhi with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi.

¨     The discussions focused on Indo-Pacific cooperation, maritime security, strengthening supply chains, and enhancing economic connectivity.

¨     The Indo-Pacific region is a geopolitical and maritime space connecting the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.

¨     In India’s foreign policy, the region is important for cooperation on security, trade, connectivity, and freedom of navigation.

¨     The India–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was established in 2020.

¨     It includes cooperation in defence, trade, technology, education, and critical supply chains.

¨     India, Australia, Japan, and the United States are members of the Quad group.

¨     The India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership was launched in 2014.

¨     It covers cooperation in infrastructure, defence, digital technology, and economic security.

¨     Japan remains a key partner in India’s connectivity and industrial projects.

¨     The third Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was held in New Delhi on 26 May 2026.
