Union Ministry of Home Affairs designated Haldia Seaport in West Bengal as an Immigration Post

¨     Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) designated Haldia Seaport in West Bengal as an Immigration Post on 22 June 2026.

¨     With this notification, Haldia became the 41st seaport immigration post along India's coastline.

¨     An Immigration Post is a notified entry or exit point where immigration clearance is provided to foreign nationals and Indian citizens travelling across international borders.

¨     In India, immigration posts function under the Immigration Act, 1983 and are administered by the Bureau of Immigration under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

¨     The Haldia Dock Complex started international operations in 1977.

¨     It was established in 1968 to reduce congestion at Kolkata Port.

¨     Haldia is located in Purba Medinipur district, West Bengal.

¨     It is a riverine port connected to the Hooghly estuary.

¨     Seaport immigration posts facilitate immigration clearance, customs checks, and international passenger movement.

¨     Before Haldia, Dahej, Sikka, and Tuna Tekra in Gujarat were designated as immigration posts on 29 May 2026.
