¨     United States Department of State approved two possible Foreign Military Sales (FMS) to India.

¨     The total estimated value of the two deals is 428.2 million dollars.

¨     The approvals were issued through separate congressional notifications by the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs.

¨     Foreign Military Sales (FMS) is a U.S. government defence export program.

¨     Under this program, defence equipment, services, and training are provided to foreign governments.

¨     The program is administered by the U.S. government.

¨     Proposed sales above a specified financial limit must be notified to the U.S. Congress.

¨     The first package is valued at an estimated 230 million dollars.

¨     It includes long-term maintenance support for India’s M777A2 ultra-light howitzers.

¨     The package includes ancillary items, spare parts, repair and return services, training, technical assistance, field service representatives, and depot capability.

¨     BAE Systems is the principal contractor for this package.

¨     The second package is valued at an estimated 198.2 million dollars.

¨     It includes follow-on support services and related equipment for India’s AH-64E Apache helicopters.

¨     The package includes engineering support, technical assistance, logistics support, technical data, publications, and personnel training.

¨     Boeing and Lockheed Martin are the principal contractors for this package.
