Vivek Aggarwal, a
1994-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Madhya Pradesh
cadre, was elected Vice President of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) on
19 June 2026 in Paris.

He is the first Indian
official to become the Vice President of FATF.
¨ FATF is the global body
that sets standards to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, and
proliferation financing.
¨
The Financial Action Task
Force (FATF) is an inter-governmental organization.
¨
It was established in
1989 by the G7 countries.
¨
FATF develops global
standards for anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorist financing (CFT), and
counter-proliferation financing (CPF).
¨
The Vice President of
FATF serves a one-year term.
¨
Vivek Aggarwal will hold
the office from July 2026 to June 2027.
¨
He will succeed Giles
Thomson of the United Kingdom.
¨
Vivek Aggarwal is
currently serving as Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
¨
He has led India’s
delegation to FATF.
¨
He has also served as
Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit–India (FIU-IND).
