¨     Vivek Aggarwal, a 1994-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, was elected Vice President of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) on 19 June 2026 in Paris.

¨     He is the first Indian official to become the Vice President of FATF.

¨  FATF is the global body that sets standards to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing.

¨     The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is an inter-governmental organization.

¨     It was established in 1989 by the G7 countries.

¨     FATF develops global standards for anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorist financing (CFT), and counter-proliferation financing (CPF).

¨     The Vice President of FATF serves a one-year term.

¨     Vivek Aggarwal will hold the office from July 2026 to June 2027.

¨     He will succeed Giles Thomson of the United Kingdom.

¨     Vivek Aggarwal is currently serving as Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

¨     He has led India’s delegation to FATF.

¨     He has also served as Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit–India (FIU-IND).
