India and Brazil signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Pune to expand cooperation in telecommunications and Information and Communications Technologies

¨     India and Brazil signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 21 August 2026 in Pune to expand cooperation in telecommunications and Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs).

¨     The agreement was signed during the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting and the BRICS ICT Track Meeting.

¨     The MoU was signed by India’s Union Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, and Brazil’s Minister of Communications, Frederico de Siqueira Filho.

¨     An MoU is a formal government instrument that records areas of cooperation but generally does not create the same legal obligations as a treaty.

¨     The agreement covers cooperation in advanced and emerging digital technologies.

¨     Key areas include Artificial Intelligence (AI), 5G, 6G, Open RAN and the Internet of Things (IoT).

¨     The framework also includes cooperation in cybersecurity.

¨     India and Brazil will cooperate in areas related to Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).

¨     Direct-to-Device connectivity is also included among the areas of cooperation.

¨     The agreement covers spectrum management and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites.

¨     This was the second bilateral agreement between the communications ministries of India and Brazil in 2026.

¨     Earlier, the two countries signed an MoU on postal sector modernisation in February 2026.

The agreement is expected to strengthen India-Brazil cooperation in digital technologies, telecommunications, cybersecurity and digital infrastructure
