India has approved the preparation
of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for its first offshore airport in
Maharashtra.

The proposed airport will
be located near Kore Beach in Palghar district, Maharashtra.
¨
It is planned as the
third international airport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
¨
A pre-feasibility report
has declared the project technically feasible.
¨
The project is being
overseen by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC).
¨
The airport is planned
with two parallel runways.
¨
It is designed to handle
up to 90 million passengers annually.
¨
The airport will also
have a cargo handling capacity of about 3 million metric tonnes per year.
¨
It will be connected to
the Uttan–Virar Sea Link.
¨
The project will have
connectivity with the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (Bullet Train) station.
¨
It will also be linked to
the Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway.
¨
The airport will be
integrated with the upcoming Vadhavan Port to strengthen logistics and
multimodal connectivity.
¨
The estimated project
cost is reported to be between ₹45,000 crore and ₹76,220 crore, according to
different official and media sources.
¨ Construction is expected to begin in 2026.
¨ Commercial operations are projected to start in the early 2030s.
