Modi launched multiple healthcare, education, and road infrastructure projects
in Chandigarh on 17 July 2026.
¨
The development package
included new facilities at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and
Research (PGIMER) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) road projects
linked to the Tricity Ring Road.
¨
PGIMER, Chandigarh,
established in 1962, is a premier tertiary care, medical education, and
research institution.
¨
The Prime Minister
inaugurated the 300-bed Advanced Mother and Child Centre to strengthen maternal
and child healthcare services.
¨
He also inaugurated the
Advanced Neurosciences Centre, which provides integrated neurology,
neurosurgery, and neuro-critical care services.
¨
The foundation stone was
laid for a 150-bed Critical Care Block under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat
Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM).
¨
PM-ABHIM, launched in
2021, is a Central Sector Scheme aimed at strengthening India’s public health
infrastructure.
¨
The package included
three NHAI road projects worth approximately ₹5,278 crore.
¨
These projects form the
final links of the 244-km Tricity Ring Road, planned at an estimated cost of
₹12,000 crore.
¨
The 31.23-km IT
City–Kurali Greenfield Corridor, a six-lane highway built at a cost of ₹1,936
crore, was inaugurated.
¨
The foundation stones
were laid for the 19.2-km Zirakpur–Panchkula Bypass and the 10.3-km PR-7 Spur.
¨ The Zirakpur–Panchkula Bypass has a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) value of approximately ₹1,878 crore, while the PR-7 Spur project is valued at approximately ₹1,464 crore.
¨ These projects are expected to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, improve regional connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and support economic development in the Chandigarh Tricity region.
